In addition to his clinical practice, James actively engages in global comparative studies on massage therapy education and the application of various manual therapy modalities. His contributions to the industry include pioneering summaries of massage techniques and comparative analyses of international massage education curricula.

James holds a Clinical Distinction Award from Vancouver College of Massage Therapy (VCMT) and has earned diplomas in Foot Reflexology and certificates in Indian Head Massage from accredited institutions in Canada. His academic background includes a Bachelor’s Degree obtained in China and a Master’s Degree from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. James is a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) and Registered Canadian Reflexology Therapist (RCRT). Besides providing professional treatment for various conditions, James includes full sessions of China Foot Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, and Facial Massage as an RMT treatment.

James’ interest in massage started in childhood when he discovered he had an instinct for wanting to help family members with their aches and pains after long hours at work. Being born and raised in China, a country where massage is prevalent, he has been gradually familiar with various styles of massage treatment since he was a teenager. His interest in massage therapy was reinvigorated after experiencing the treatment of RMT in Vancouver and inspired him to undergo formal education to become an RMT himself.

James devotes himself to global comparative studies of massage therapy education, the practice of different modalities of manual therapy for effective treatment, and the optimal portfolio of techniques to treat patients. His contributions to the manual therapy industry are as follows:

  • Developed a concise summary of the ‘Taxonomy of Massage Therapy and Manual Osteopathy Techniques’ by consolidating the latest research, practicing the related techniques, and re-categorizing all the common massage and manual osteopathy techniques using a systematic taxonomy method recognized by industry-leading professionals.
  • Developed ‘TUINA VS RMT Essential Techniques Comparison’ by intensively researching and comparing the syllabus between China’s four-year Bachelor’s degree in massage and Canada’s two-year diploma in massage therapy. This is the first time such differences in techniques between the two globally dominant massage therapy systems have been reviewed.
  • Developed ‘China Standard Foot Reflexology Routine’ in English & Chinese by enthusiastically researching and comparing famous reflexology literature and videos, highlighting the manual of Reflexology Association Canada and China Reflexology Association to successfully demystify this world’s most widely used reflexology treatment routine to the Western World.

James graduated from Vancouver College of Massage Therapy (VCMT) with a Diploma in Massage Therapy (DMT). He also graduated from the National Academy of Osteopathy (NAO) with a Diploma in Osteopathic Manual Practice (DOMP). He acquired a diploma/certificate in Foot Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, and Facial Massage/Skin Care from accredited institutes and top-notch practitioners in Canada. James’ academic background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in China and a Master’s Degree from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.

James is fluent in both English and Mandarin.
